Date : 17 January 1746

The Jacobites, retreating from England, were met at Falkirk by a Government force under Lt. General Hawley. Approximately even numbers could have led to a close fought battle but Hawley's poor leadership and heavy rain went against the Hanoverians. The Jacobites while not gaining an overwhelming victory, more a case of rain stopped play, they were able to occupy Falkirk which was their objective.

Full of detailed references and anecdotes which begin to give some idea of how information was learned the hard way. Particularly relevant, as the author was himself involved.
